" ... UGH." _________ groaned. Eduard had put her king it check, for the 3rd and final time that game, beating her. For about the 5th time. "How can you do that every time!"
He chuckled, marking down another win in his notebook. "Strategy _________." he said, while picking up the rest of the pieces on the board. "That and using the pawns to get better pieces on the board."
"Yeah ... " she held the one pawn Eduard hadn't taken off the board. "Man I stink at chess." she said, giving the piece to Eduard to pack up.
"Trust me," he said, putting away his notebook and closing the zip lock bag he kept the pieces in. "Practice makes perfect."
She sighed. "Practice I don't really have time to do."
"Or don't make time to do?"
" ... It's not my fault that my gameboy is always near me when I play chess and I ... don't exactly want to practice ... ok, maybe it is my fault."
He laughed, as he folded up the chess board, tucking it in a small case. "It's fine. Maybe chess isn't really your thing."
She sighed, starting to walk away from their table. "What else am I supposed to do? 3 of my brothers are doing violin, all four of them are doing jujitsu, and they're all getting straight A's."
"What's your point?" he said, following her out of the commons.
"They've all got hobbies that'll probably stick till high school and they're really smart. Sure, I've drawn a few decent pictures, but I'm getting a C in Physics, and where are video games, and a crap ton of anime knowledge from Kiku going to help me in life? I need an intellectual hobby!"
"And wrestling people to the ground is intellectual?" Eduard asked.
"Well, maybe not that but it would help if you got into a fight or something ... Gah, I don't know. I guess I'm just a bit down since they can do all this musical stuff while and I'm just some generic anime nerd."
"No."
"Huh?"
"No, you're not just an anime nerd." said Eduard, turning his head away slightly. "You're ... you're more than that."
" ... What do you mean by that?" she asked, genuinely confused.
Eduard seemed to flush red. "Um .... I-I ... what I mean is ... " he sighed. "I can't say it ... but I guess I can ... "
He quickly took out his notebook and flipped to a clean sheet of paper. He scribble something down, before closing the notebook and handing it to her and briskly walking away, a vivid blush on his face.
Now extremely curious, _________ flipped to the page Eduard wrote on.
"You may see your self as a generic pawn, but in my eyes you're a queen .... and you've put my heart in check."
